My good friend Ryan, who runs Forumize (I posted about the site earlier), wrote a nice little article on how to choose mods for your forum, and in general how to keep your forum running smooth. I think that it would be appropriate for any forum administrator to read the article (stale link removed after several site redesigns).
I stumbled across a post on the blog of Eric Giguere (who writes about advertising with Google’s AdSense) where he discusses what would happen to someone’s sites (and AdSense account, more importantly) when he dies. It’s such a profound topic to write about, but is defenitely worth discussion. In short, he says that you should write out a disaster recovery plan of sorts, instructing its reader to login to your AdSense account and suspend payments until things get cleared up. Hopefully I’ll live to the day I decide to cancel my AdSense account. Oh G-d, let’s not even think about this…
