		<description>I tried requiring commentors to be logged in a while ago (back in the dark beginnings of my blog), but at some point I figured that I would get absolutely no comments if I did that, and just left it with comment moderation. Now I use Askimet, and I don&#039;t remember seeing a single spam comment being let through.</description>

By banning unregistered commenters (which seems reasonable - as a matter of courtesy, people ought to say who they are if they are going to post their two penn&#039;orth) and then blocking spam bots (as I outlined in my fix over on wordpress.org), I&#039;ve (I hope) prevented spam comments on my wordpress blog (which isn&#039;t the one I link to above).

Sorry for all the parentheses - sometimes English is just too linear, or insufficiently parallel. On blogger (the one I link to above), comment verification works nicely.

Also, I couldn&#039;t get akismet to work because the code I got from wordpress.com didn&#039;t verify. &gt;:(</description>
