Everyone’s Blogging About Blogging!

There happens to be this trend today with some so-called “probloggers” who write about little more than blogging itself on their blogs. While every person has their own opinion of what a blog is, there has to be some kind of standard defenition for the term ‘blog’. Now in my humble opinion, if someone is going to start a blog, they should actually write about something other than blogging. Write about things in the niche that you would locate yourself under (or to use Web 2.0 terminology, tag yourself with).
Some blogs, like Weblog Tools Collection, actually do something useful by posting links to plugins, themes and the like. In particular, Lorelle on WordPress is like a WordPress manual in a blog format. Some other blogs, like BloggingPro (as well as others whose names I don’t remeber off hand), seem to write about just blogging, how to make money from blogging, and stuff that doesn’t really cover a wide range of interests (or to use general words, a niche). At least expand your ‘market’ by writitng about other things.
Even though I don’t really expect to rant about this again, it’s worth mentioning even once. Please probloggers, open up your minds to things other than blogging, like many people say to me, “Get a life!”

As a blogger who specializes in blogging about blogging, covering little else on my blogging on blogging blog, I second, third, and fourth your rant.
I’m so tired of people blogging about blogging when they really don’t know anything about blogging. Or blogging about blogging because they are learning to blog and want to share their lessons. That’s okay for about 5 days. We’ve all been there, done that, wrote about, let’s move on.
Or the blogging on blogging just to catch traffic. These are often empty posts that regurgitate old, often inaccurate information.
I agree. Leave blogging about blogging to bloggers who are specialists in blogging about blogging. The rest, find some other passion to write about. There are a few other subjects out there, aren’t there? Just open a newspaper or dictionary.
Thanks for bringing this important subject up!

Hey Lorelle! Glad to see you found my blog!
Including the fact that your post is a bit difficult to read, I am not sure which direction you are pointing in. Are you pro-probloggers, or against?

Sorry, I thought I had responded to this. My point was to leave blogging about blogging to the professionals who blog about blogging. Too many say they are “experts” in blogging and their tips and articles are lousy with old news and redundant information. They don’t add anything new to the conversation about blogging. Or the blog on blogging occasionally just to attract attention. Leave blogging about blogging to the experts.
As for bloggers who blog about blogging expanding their niche to blog about something else – what do you think they should blog about if their niche is blogging about blogging? I would really hate to read about cats on a problogger blog, wouldn’t you?

Let this serve as advice for other bloggers. Stick to either your niche, or the overall range of subjects (like with Educated) that you advertise your blog under. Do what you say you do best.
